Youth drowns at Bhatkal dam; not yet traced

Bhatkal: A 16-year-old youth drowned at Kadvinkatta dam in Bhatkal today, Wednesday evening, 10th July. 

The missing youth is identified as Ibrahim Abida s/o Faisal Abida, a resident of Farooqui street in Bhatkal.

According to the sources, Ibrahim got drowned in the dam while he was picnicking along with his friends.

A relative of Ibrahim informed that the victim, who is a hafiz-e- quran, had retured to town just today  after completing his religious journey of 'Umrah'. It is also said that he had been to masjid for asar namaz around 4pm, after which he went to visit Kadvinkatta dam with his friends. 

There is heavy rain in Bhatkal from last 48 hours and the dam is gushing with water with high tide. He was washed away by the heavy flow of water in the dam. Some sources also informed that he was a good swimmer, but as the flow of water was heavy, it was impossible for him to make his way out.

As the news of him drowning made rounds on social media platforms, hundreds of people rushed to Kadvinkatta dam and also Venktapur river to launch search operation for the missing youth. 

Bhatkal CPI Ganesh along with other police officicals also rushed to the drowing spot and also to Venktapur river and search operation is going on with the help of fire engine.
