Yellapur constituency to go for polling on Dec 5; Model code of conduct for polls comes into effect

Karwar: “Polling for the by-elections for Yellapur Assembly Constituency will be held on December 5 and the model code of conduct for this has already come into effect,” informed Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar.

Informing this at a press conference in Karwar on Monday, Harishkumar said that as many as 231 polling stations will be set up in the limits of Yellapur Assembly Constituency. 15 check-posts have been set up to check election-related illegal activities.

He said that voters’ list with the photograph of the voters will be used in this by-election. Voters must compulsorily have Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to cast their votes. This will be the main document to facilitate voting. Other alternative documents based on which a voter can cast his or her vote will be decided after the Election Commission issues directions in this regard.

Harishkumar said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and VVPATs required for the voting have been kept ready.

Prohibitory orders

As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders have been put in place in an area of 200 metres around the office of the Election officer in Yellapur. Sale and transportation of liquor will be prohibited on the day before the polling, on the day of polling and on the day before and day of counting. Holiday would be announced in the Assembly Constituency which is going for polls on the day of voting.

Eye on history-sheeters

District Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju said that sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations have been identified and an eye has been kept on the history-sheeters of that area.

He warned people/political parties against putting up buntings and banners without permission.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Nagaraj Singrer, Additional Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod and others were present.
