Yallapur: Villagers stage stir against illegal sale of liquor

Yallapur: The residents of Manavinamane under Malavalli Gram Panchayat limits of the taluk were up in arms against police and excise department for not taking steps to check the illegal sale of liquor. 

The villagers staged a protest in front of the gram panchayat. 

Addressing the protesters, Ganapati Vagalli said that illegal sale of liquor is unabated at Basel, Malavalli and Bare Timmani and youths are becoming alcoholics.

Theft on rise

They are committing theft to get money for liquor. In an inebriated condition, the youths often indulge in violent fights and eve-teasing. They are not even sparing women and assaulting them verbally and physically, he alleged.

He asked the excise and police police departments and the local elected representatives to act tough on those who sell liquor illegally and put an end to this menace.

Women insecure

Women Organisation Member Malati Bhat said that earlier, women were fearing to walk out of the house after dark. But, they are feeling insecure to go out of the house even in the morning hours. Several families have come on to the streets after the breadwinners have become addicted to alcohol.
