Restrictions in villages sharing borders with Kerala extended

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada administration has lifted weekend curfew, imposed in the district since April this year, following pressure from elected representatives, organisations, traders and others.

Earlier in the day, BJP MLA D Vedavyas Kamath had posted messages on social media that the weekend curfew imposed in the districts will be lifted. Kamath had also submitted a memorandum on withdrawing the weekend curfew in the district to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, issuing a set of new directions, emphasised that the night curfew will remain on all days from 9 pm to 5 am. In the order, Rajendra also directed owners, staff of shops and establishments to get themselves vaccinated. The owners, staff of shops and establishments also should undergo RT-PCR tests once in 10 days, he added.

DK’s positivity rate

The DC also urged owners and staff to extend all co-operation by submitting RT-PCR negative certificates during inspection by Health teams of local civic body. The restrictions in the villages sharing borders with Kerala had been extended. He said the weekend curfew was lifted as positivity rate of district since a week was 1.83 %.

“The total positivity rate for past 10 days was 1.63% for Udupi and 1.88% for DK district,” he added. Rajendra also sought co-operation from public to postpone their travel plans to Karnataka or to Kerala.

The DC also directed heads of institutions to ensure that the plans to visit Kerala by teaching or students was postponed up to October. The residents from Kerala state forced to visit Karnataka should mandatorily submit the RT-PCR negative certificates.
