Karwar: Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Roshan said that the district administration was completely prepared to face the health emergency in the district. Another 800 beds will be ready in the district hospital in next three days to cater to such situations.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that a three-phase health system was being followed in the district hospital. In the first phase, the medical staff will check the patients at the ‘fever corner’ set up at the district hospital. Those patients who show Covid-19 symptoms will have to undergo the second phase of treatment which will be provided at the medical college. A medical lab is being set up there. Along with it, 10 handy X-Ray machines and two CB-NAAT test machines (used to test TB patients) have been provided.

He added that for the
third phase treatment, a quarantine corner has been set up to treat Covid-19 patients. Efforts were being made to ready 300 exclusive beds for this purpose. 100 pieces of medical equipment to check heart beat and oxygen supply will be supplied in another two days. Ventilators and anti-viral drugs have been kept ready to treat patients.

“We already have 14 ventilators and we have asked for another 15. We are hoping that we will get them soon. Presently, 800 patients can be accommodated in the district hospital itself. In the next four days, similar facilities will be made available in taluk hospitals also,” he added.
