‘Tourism boats must get fitness certificate’

Karwar: Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar has issued orders giving a month’s deadline to all tourist boats of Uttara Kannada district to take necessary safety measures and submit fitness certificate.

Speaking at a meeting of tourist boat owners and officials to discuss the issue of tourist boat permits in Karwar on Wednesday, the deputy commissioner said that tourist boats must necessarily submit fitness certificate to get permits. Only those who submit the certificate along with other documents within a month will get the permit.

The permits of all tourist boats in the district had been cancelled after the Koormagad incident. However, to get re-registered, boat owners have to produce fitness certificate of the boats as per the guidelines of the Ports Department.

Coast Guard Commandant S Nanda, Port Officer K Swamy, Coastal Security Police Superintendent of Police N T Pramod Rao SP N T Pramodrao, Tourism Department Deputy Director Purushottam, Fisheries Department Deputy Director Nagraj and others were present.
