‘Pvt hospitals should reserve 50% beds for Covid patients’: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V

MangaluruThe district should make all preparations to tackle second wave of Covid-19, Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V told officials from government hospitals and representatives from private hospitals.

Chairing a meeting of representatives from medical college hospitals and the private hospitals, he said the district was witnessing surge in Covid-19 cases. It will continue to rise for the next 15 days. The private hospitals should reserve 50% of its beds for treating Covid-19 infected. Suitable treatment should be provided to the infected, he added.

Further, hospitals should also recommend patients to go for vaccination. The Covid tests should be conducted by collecting prescribed fee set by state government. If the patients are unable to pay the fee in private hospitals, then such samples should be sent to district hospital, he said.

Further, he directed private hospitals to share details on availability of beds for Covid patients with the district administration. Officers have been appointed to look into the availability of beds.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Kumar said there was no progress in private hospitals administering Covid vaccines. By instilling confidence in the patients, there is a need to increase vaccination.

Strengthen facilities

In a separate meeting, chaired by the deputy commissioner at district Wenlock hospital, Rajendra directed officials to make all arrangements for treating the patients infected with Covid.

With the KMC deputing more of its students, it is helpful in providing healthcare services at the hospital. More computer operators should be deployed in virology wing to ensure that Covid test reports are issued without any delay.

The officials should ensure that beds, ICU and ventilators are reserved for Covid-infected at hospitals. All the safety kits, medicines and equipment required for treating Covid-infected should be stocked to ensure that it is sufficient for next 15 to 20 days.
