Kannada Star Puneeth Rajkumar Dies in Bangalore

Bangalore: Kannada Actor Puneeth Rajkumar has died after suffering a heart attack on Friday. He was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru after he suffered a massive heart attack. The 46-year-old was in a serious condition and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"Puneeth Rajkumar was brought to Vikram Hospital with diagnosis of heart attack with ECG done by a family doctor. At the time of arrival to the emergency, the patient was non-responsive and was in cardiac asystole," the hospital said in a statement

“Immediate advanced cardiac life support measures were initiated for resuscitation. In spite of prolonged advanced &aggressive measures, patient continued to be non-responsive and asystolic. Panel of medical experts extended all efforts to save him. He was declared dead at 2.30pm,” the hospital added.

Puneeth Rajkumar was one of the marquee names of Kannada film industry and the youngest of the five children of matinee idol. He is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth and two daughters Drithi and Vanditha.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has arrived at the hospital. Several ministers and former Chief Ministers and Stars from both Bollywood and south film industry expressed shock and heartbreak at his death.

Massive crowd of fans are seen waiting outside the Vikram Hospital where Puneeth was brought in after he suffered a heart attack. Meanwhile, offices and shops in Bengaluru have shut down and police battalions were brought in to control swarming crowds of fans in anticipation of violence after the popular actor's death.

Revenue Minister R. Ashok said the last rites of the actor will be performed on October 30, and the details will be finalised after discussions with the family. He appealed to the actor’s fans not to become emotional and maintain peace. His mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at Kanteerava Stadium.
