Mangaluru: Posco case against victim’s neighbour

Mangaluru:  Belthangady police have booked a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Pocso Act, 2012, against Narayan Naik, who has been accused of sexually assaulting his neighbour’s six year-old daughter.

The victim’s mother, in her complaint to the police, stated that Narayan had lured her daughter on the pretext of offering sweet potato. The mother, despite being informed about the sexual assault by her daughter, had hesitated to go to the hospital or file a complaint with the police. However, when her daughter was sexually assaulted repeatedly by Narayan, she decided to file a complaint, the police said.

Atrocity case booked

An actrocity case has been booked against four persons in Belthangady police station for allegely pushing to death, a man belonging to the SC/ST community.

The deceased has been identifed as Jarappa Naik. There was a land dispute between Jarappa Naik’s brother Narayan Naik, a resident of Shantinagar near Indabettu village, and the four accused.

During a scuffle between them on Friday night, Jarappa tried to intervene and rescue his brother, when he got allegedly pushed by one of the accused. Jarappa died on the way to hospital, after collapsing on the ground.

Based on a complaint, the police have booked a case under Section 304, 34 of IPC and SC/ST Atrocities Act against Chandrakanth Naik, Manohar Gowda, Hariprasad Poojary and Deepak Shetty.

According to the police, the accused are said to be absconding.
