One-day self curfew a success in Udupi

Udupi: The Prime Minister’s appeal for Janata curfew received good response with normal life coming to a standstill in both urban and rural Udupi.

Both private and public modes of transport remained inaccessible to the public. Taxis and autorickshaws also remained off the road. The roads wore a deserted look. Almost all shops, restaurants and other establishments remained closed.

Male harbour deserted

Malpe fisheries harbour also wore a deserted look with all fishing boats anchored at the port.

Everyone remained indoors and the roads in interior villages in Kundapur, Udupi, Karkala, Kaup, Santhekatte, Hejmadi, Manipal, Brahmavar and Byndoor sported a deserted look. 

As it was a Sunday, the public did not find any need to step out as they had purchased all the essential items like milk, vegetables and groceries on Saturday itself. Even National Highway 66 and 169 (A) wore a deserted look. 

Only the medical stores, petrol bunks and hospitals remained open. The civic workers performed their duty by cleaning the streets and the staff at Mescom offices performed their duties. 

16 admitted

As many as 16 people displaying the symptoms of Severe Accurate Respiratory Infection (SARI) were admitted to the hospitals in the district on Sunday. The result of total samples awaited is 42, which includes 16 suspects on Sunday. Two among the 28 cases tested negative. 

A 35-year-old male arrived from Japan, 24-year-old male from Saudi, 58-year-old female from Saudi, 25-year-old female from Singapore, 39-year-old male from Muscat, 29-year-old male from Abhu Dhabi, 50-year-old female from Mumbai, 16-year-old male from Mumbai, 51-year-old male from Telangana and 38-year-old male from Mumbai are admitted in the district.
