Mayoral polls for Mangaluru City Corporation to be held on Feb 28

MANGALURU: The urban development department has decided to conduct the Mayor polls for Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on February 28.
The principal secretary had directed the commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on February 3 to proceed with the election to the post of mayor and deputy mayor as per the reservation roster for the 21st term dated September 3, 2018.

Accordingly, the mayor will now be a candidate from BCM 'A' category while deputy mayor for woman general.

Mysuru regional commissioner Yashwanth V will be conducting the election at the MCC hall on February 28 at 11.30am, said MCC commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde.

BJP had swept the elections to 60-member council held on November 12 winning 44 wards relegating ruling Congress to 14 wards. Social Democratic Party of India won two seats.

Corporators Divakar (Ward 46 - Cantonment), Jayanand Anchan (Ward 22 – Kadri Padavu) and Sharath Kumar (Ward 13 – Kunjathbail North) from the BJP are in the race for the mayors' post. However, the party is yet to finalise the candidate.
