Mangaluru:  It was a joyful day to cherish for 600 enthusiastic children of 10 different orphanage schools in and around Mangaluru city. Leaving behind their pain and agony, they felt a sense of freedom during Orphanage Olympics on Sunday.

Children freely mingled, played and danced with other orphanage schoolchildren and shared their memorable moments. It was a platform provided by Rotary and Rotaract clubs to showcase their hidden skills in sports and talent in cultural events. All the guests and spectators could see the happiness that lit up their faces.

Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central jointly with Rotaract Club of Mangaluru City organised their 21st Annual Inter Orphanage Olympics Sports and Cultural Meet exclusively for inmates of orphanages.

Vedayasa Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South constituency, in his inaugural address, lauded the community services rendered by the Rotary in providing a suitable platform and equal opportunity to the children to showcase their skills. He suggested that voluntary service organisations should strive hard to eliminate social inequality prevailing in the society. He also assured full co-operation of the Mangaluru City Corporation to Rotary to conduct community development projects.

Organising committee chairman Dr Devdas Rai said this event is a part of their community service and the objective is to bring a smile on the faces of children at least for a day and make sure they don’t feel lonely.
