Mangaluru: Man sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment

Mangaluru: Additional Sessions Court and Fast-track Special Court found a man guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor, and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

The convict is Irfan (28) of Deralakatte, who had sexually assaulted the minor girl at a lodge after kidnapping her in 2014. He used to talk to the victim over phone frequently and had begun pestering her to marry him.

He had kidnapped the girl when she was on her way to college to write her examinations in August 2014.

Later, Irfan took her to a lodge in Chikkamagaluru and sexually assaulted her. He had even issued threats to her.

The girl’s parents had filed a missing complaint in Ullal Police Station. Following the complaint, the police had arrested the accused, and Inspector Savitra Teja had filed a charge sheet in the court.

Fine slapped

Judge Savithri V Bhat upheld the arguments of public prosecutor and declared Irfan guilty of sexually assaulting the minor. The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.

Irfan will undergo an additional two months of rigorous imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine amount.
