Clouds overcast Bhatkal beating summer heat; woman dies due to lightening strike in Kumta

Bhatkal: People in Bhatkal received a sigh of relief from the summer heat after a light rainfall with lightning that stroke the region in the early hours of Sunday. Heavy rains were reported in the late night on Saturday in Kumta and Ankola. 

Electricity also failed for about an hour due to heavy rains with thunderstorms that lashed in Kumta and Ankola, but the people here were relieved after the HESCOM officials restored power overnight. However, in the morning, changes were also reported in Bhatkal's weather with light rainfall. The sky remained overcast from morning till evening. If heavy rainfall is witnessed, the raising temperature in Bhatkal shall break the summer heat bringing people to relief from the hot summer.

Woman killed in Kumta: A woman, identified as Shobha Chandrakanth Gowda of Gokarna in the taluk, reportedly killed due to lightning strike and thunder. It is reported that Shobha was asleep in her home when she fell unconscious due to a lightning strike at around 2 AM. She was admitted to Kumta Government Hospital for treatment but succumbed failing to respond to the treatment.
