Karwar: Mercury Ship Repairs Pvt Ltd of Karwar has been duped of Rs 6.34 lakh by fraudsters who contacted them through an e-mail sent using a duplicate ID of a foreign company.

Company Managing Director P V Prajeet has lodged a complaint in this regard with the District Cyber Crime police recently.

In his complaint, he has said that their company used to have business dealings with a foreign company named Denjit Nordic Denmark. Their company
would purchase the goods needed from this foreign company.

On June 22, a list of required goods had been sent to the official e-mail ID of the company. On June 25, they received an email from the same ID where the company had demanded payment in advance for the goods to be supplied. Believing that, Rs 6.34 lakh was credited to the bank account number mentioned in that e-mail.

However, after a few days, they got to know that the e-mail ID from which they received the second e-mail was duplicate.

‘Arrest fraudsters’

Mercury Ship Repairs Pvt Ltd has asked the police to arrest the fraudsters and ensure that the company gets its money back.
