Karnataka’s RT-PCR rule faces fierce opposition; highway traffic disrupted for 2nd day

Kolhapur: A day after the NCP blocked the Pune-Bangalore national highway, the Shiv Sena here on Thursday resorted to the same move to protest the new COVID travel rules issued by the Karnataka government.

Led by Kolhapur Sena chief Vijay Devne, the protestors first gathered at the Shivaji Chowk in the Kagal tehsil, garlanded the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and then marched to the Kognoli toll plaza.

After reaching Kognoli, which is the last check post between Maharashtra-Karnataka border, the livid protestors sloganeered against the rule of presenting RT-PCR report for entering the southern state.

Holding the highway traffic at bay, they asserted that the new rule has made daily travel a hassle.

Hence, the rule should be withdrawn immediately, they sought as the NCP made the same demand on Wednesday.
Later, the Karnataka Police arrested Mr Devne along with others only to release them later.
