Mangaluru: Karavali Utsav will be celebrated at the Tannirbavi Beach from December 23 to January 1, said district minister V Sunil Kumar. He was speaking at a preparatory meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday.

The minister discussed the government sanctions for Karavali Utsav, private partnership for sponsorship, cultural programmes and procession to be held as part of the festival. “More emphasis will be given for the culture of the coastal region while celebrating the festival. Further, it will be a boost to coastal tourism,” the minister said, and directed officials to get suggestions and cooperation from those who were part of the previous years’ Karavali Utsav events.

While Tannirbavi Beach will be the main venue for the festival, programmes will also be held at Kadri Park and other venues. A food festival will be organised at Tannirbavi beach, he said.

Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra said the district could not hold Karavali Utsav in the last two years due to Covid-19 pandemic. He insisted that achievers from the district should be given an opportunity to showcase their talent during the festival.
