Bhatkal’s first Engineer and Ex President of Anjuman, Jukaku Abdur Raheem passes away in USA

Bhatkal: Former president of Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Bhatkal’s first engineer and one of the most highly educated and experienced social leaders of the region Mr. Abdul Raheem Jukaku passed away in Los Angeles, USA. The news of his demise was received in Bhatkal during the early hours of March 1, 2021, Monday.

Known as an uncompromising educationist, Mr. Jukaku has twice served as the General Secretary of Bhatkal’s 100-year old educational organization Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen and also as its president. 

Born in March 1940, Mr. Jukaku was known as a promising student right since his childhood. He completed his primary education at the Government Board School in Bhatkal after which he was enrolled in a Kannada Medium High school in Madikeri (Coorg). He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University College of Bangalore in Engineering in 1963, after which he  also secured a Master's degree.

As an engineer, he worked for major industrial establishments in Madras (current day Chennai), Hyderabad and Bengaluru for 16 years. He was the first Bhatkali to serve as a director at a government establishment. He also served as an engineer and chief engineer for 25 years at Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA), a position he held till his retirement. 

Mr. Jukaku was elected as the executive member of Bangalore Muslim Jamaat at the age of 35, rising to the position of vice president. Due to his educational credentials, experience and knowledge, he was nominated on the top posts of many social and educational organizations such as Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat Dubai, Bhatkal Muslim Khaleej Council, Bhatkal Jamatul Muslimeen and more. After his retirement, on the request of several community leaders, he had moved to Bhatkal, serving as Anjuman’s general secretary for two consecutive terms. 

Mr. Abdul Raheem Jukaku’s demise has created a huge void in the educational space of Bhatkal, a void that would be hard to fill. He is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons.
