Mangaluru: Mangaluru MLA U T Khader said that random samples were carried out in Ullal in a bid to check the spread of Covid-19.

A helpline will be set up in his constituency, in association with the NGOs to tackle the crisis, Khader told mediapersons at the Circuit house on Friday.

Ward committees will be constituted in each ward under the Ullal CMC limits to tackle the situation. Each ward will have a task force with volunteers in the age group between 18 and 50 years. Members of the Task Force will be trained and provided with an ID to tackle the situation. Survey will be conducted in each ward of the CMC and a list of people above 50 years and below 10 years, suffering from other ailments will be prepared, Khader said.

Using rapid kits, those suffering comorbidities will be tested for Covid-19 and if required, necessary arrangements will be made for their treatment, he added.

The MLA said those asymptomatic and are undergoing treatment by remaining isolated at houses will be monitored through Asha workers. Measures will also be taken to hire ambulance with the help of donors in Ullal.

He said random testing in Ullal will help check the spread of Covid-19, as well fatalities. The district administration should give priority to conduct random testing in different parts of the district.

On allegations regarding private hospitals charging exorbitant fees for Covid-19 treatment, he said, a written complaint should be be submitted to the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner.

He accused the government of failing to manage the Covid-19 situation in the state.
