Ullal: GP member gets heaps of garbage cleared

Ullal:  A gram panchayat member took an initiative to clear the heap of garbage that was lying by the side of the road in the fifth ward of Munnur gram panchayat. 

The main road at Madani Nagara in the GP limits connect Yenepoya, Nitte Universities, in addition to four medical college hospitals. However, a heap of garbage lying by the side of the main road was inconveniencing the residents and the passersby.

People who arrive in vehicles in the night were engaged in dumping garbage. As a result, the entire area was reeking with nauseating smell. The public had complained to the gram panchayat several times. Having realised the problem, the GP member engaged an earth mover and cleared the garbage in the midnight. 

“We were trying to figure out who were engaged in dumping garbage. Recently, we had seen two persons dumping garbage. Later, we made them to pick the dumped garbage and a warning was issued to them. With the help of GP President Wilfred D’Souza, member Siraj, PDO Ravindra and others, the garbage was cleared,” said Rehana Banu. 

About five to six loads of garbage was cleared from the spot. Further, the gram panchayat has taken steps to install CCTV cameras and solar lamps at the site to check further dumping of garbage, she added.
