Don't fall prey to online fraud, SP tells people

Sirsi: One should not fall prey to online fraud and should be careful while dealing with strangers online, suggested Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju. 

He was speaking after distributing certificates to persons who completed civil rifle training, at the concluding programme of civil rifle training held at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Thursday. 

He said, some unknown persons may lure people to earn more money in a short time. Besides, online fraudsters target innocent people. Hence, one should be cautious when strangers seek personal details online, he instructed.

He said, it is a matter of concern that in these days, educated people are falling prey to online frauds. Some fraudsters have started collecting money from people through mobile application. Despite being aware of frauds, people often fall prey to the tactics of fraudsters, he expressed concern. 

He also instructed that if anyone finds such frauds, he/she should immediately inform to police by dialling on helpline number--112. If there are suspicious activities, they should be brought to the notice of the police. 112 helpline number has been launched to facilitate people. They should utilise it, he stated.     

He said, priority has been given for the protection of women. Gun licenses should not be misused, he instructed.
