Covid-19: Section 144 clamped in Uttara Kannada; Bhatkal to go under lockdown from tomorrow

Karwar: "Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Uttara Kannada in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that is rapidly making its presence felt in the state", informed DC Dr Harish Kumar.

The district administration has now imposed Section 144 till midnight of March 30.

Briefing media persons, he said, Under the prohibitory orders, people should not hold any programmes or ceremonies. All public programmes including religious ceremonies, cultural programs and so on will be banned with a view to maintain social distancing.

Mass prayers and religious ceremonies will not be allowed in temples, mosques and churches. Summer camps, seminars, exhibitions and other such programmes will also be prohibited. Beaches and other tourist spots will also be closed, he added.

The DC has instructed all citizens to follow the guidelines strictly. Any appeal to relax the guidelines on personal grounds will not be entertained, the DC said.

Bhatkal to go under lockdown:

The district administration has issued an order of lockdown in the entire Bhatkal sub-division for the next six days from 6 AM on Tuesday following the effects of the Coronavirus on a youth of Bhatkal who was tested positive in Mangaluru.

Addressing the media, the DC said, the Uttara Kannada district has more than 40% of people who have arrived abroad. As Bhatkal in the district is highly susceptible place with number of locals arriving abroad, the region will go under lockdown for next six days from tomorrow till 30th March as a precautionary step.

All shops, commercial establishments, workshops and godowns with other unessential goods will be closed in Bhatkal.

The deputy commissioner said that during the period of lockdown, the people who came in contact with the man who was tested positive for Coronavirus, will be tested.

Along with the lockdown of Bhatkal, the roads connecting Uttara Kannada district, especially Dharwad, Goa and Udupi National Highways, are being sealed from tomorrow along with banning the entry of vehicles.
