Coronavirus is not a battle between authorities and people of Bhatkal: Uttara Kannada SP clarifies

Bhatkal: "Coronavirus is not a battle between authorities and people of Bhatkal, and one should not feel social insult if his/her swabs are collected for testing", clarified Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Shivprakash Devaraju in Bhatkal.

Following the sudden surge of 12 new COVID-19 positive cases in Bhatkal on Friday, SP visited Bhatkal and chaired a meeting with officials to take extra precautionary measures to curb the spread of deadly Coronavirus.

Speaking to presspersons about the extra precautionary measures taken post-meeting, he said, the entire town of Bhatkal containment is further divided into 5 zones, which excludes Madina colony. He said Madina colony is separated from all the other zones and only one entry/exit point into the colony will be installed provided with 24×7 police guards. As the cases today were received from Madina colony, the entire colony will be sealed down from tomorrow, while the remaining 5 regions too will go under strict sealing in next couple of days, provided with only one entry/exit point.

"Policemen deployed in each region, where there will be patrolling with separate In-Charge officer. Also, drone surveillance will be conducted in all the regions, and anyone found violating the rules will be booked. As per the instructions from Deputy Commissioner, all the shops including medical shops and petrol pumps will remain closed from tomorrow", he said.

Further, he said that essential services including medicines will be supplied only to houses, whose details will be given by taluka or district administration. There will also be region wise police In-Charge and authorities, for whom shall be contacted for any assistance or medical help. All details will be notified by the Assistant Commissioner. Helpline numbers shall also function 24×7 for any assistance. Also, only two attendees will be allowed in case of medical emergencies, that too in government ambulances, he added.

"Any movement of people in the containment zone will lead to criminal activity and will be dealt with strictly. Total of 3 CPIs, 10 PSIs, 30 ASPs and 200 HCs are among the deployed forces. The extensive health screenings shall be done by health teams with the help of police personnel", he noted. 

Finally, he appealed the people of Bhatkal to take this lockdown seriously and asked to cooperate with health workers if any kind of symptoms related to COVID-19 is found. He said not to heed for any rumours against the administration, while the administration is here to help the people. Also, those spreading fake rumours will be nabbed and dealt with strictly.
