CM Yediyurappa promises to develop Banavasi as tourist hub

Sirsi: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has promised of developing the historic Banavasi as a tourist destination. ‘Special focus would be laid to enhance tourism facilities here and make it a tourist hub’, he said.

He noted this while speaking after inaugurating the two-day Kadambotsava at Banavasi near Sirsi on Saturday.

He said, there are abundant opportunities to transform Uttar Kannada as a tourist centre. Adding to this, the Kadambotsava which reflects the rich tradition, culture and art of Karnataka would also be celebrated as a government cultural utsav. 

All plans will be made to take this utsav at the global level and strive for the progress of the artistes and this culturally rich place, he added.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri said that all are equal in the country. There is a need to understand the cultural biodiversity of the land and forward it to the future generation. The festivals should depict the history of the land and the cultural importance for the younger generation, he added.

Kadambas hailed

Uttar Kannada District In-charge Minister Shashikala Jolle said that it is pride that Banavasi was the first capital of Kannada region. Kadamba rulers worked and fought for Kannada and their aspirations should be reached out to the Kannadigas.

On the occasion, the prestigious Pampa award was presented to writer Siddalingayya. 

Tourism Minister C T Ravi said that Siddalingayya is voice of suppressed class and has strived hard for their empowerment. It gives immense joy and happiness to bestow the award to Siddalingayya, he added.

The BJP has come to power in the State to strengthen the aspirations of Constitution of India and protect the culture of the State. Sukri Goud, Tulasi Goud and Hajabba who were neglected by the previous government have been recognised by this government, he said.

MLA Roopali Naik, Karnataka Biodiversity Board Chairman Ananth Hegde Ashisar, NWKRTC Chairman V S Patil, Jayasri Moger, Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar, and others were present.
