Mangaluru: The bodies of a elderly couple were found in a charred condition at their house in Chembugudde near Mangaluru on Wednesday, 19th June.

The couple is identified as Padmanabha (75), and Vimala (60).

The police are investigating whether the couple’s death was a suicide or accidental. The exact cause of their death can be known after receiving post mortem report.

The incident came to light when the couple’s son-in-law Umanath visited the house on Wednesday, and he found no response. Also, a nauseating smell was emanating from the house and houseflies were found buzzing inside. Umanath alerted the police and the couple’s two sons.

The police, on breaking into the house, found the bodies in a charred condition. A kerosene lamp was found on the floor, beside the bodies.

A daughter of the couple, residing in Kanyana, had spoken to Vimala on Monday afternoon. When she called on Tuesday, however, there had been no response, the police said.
