TMC Poll: 50.74 % polling recorded in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: The election for Town Municipal Council (TMC) Bhatkal went off peacefully on Wednesday amidst tight police security.

The overall polling percentage was 50.74%.

Ward no 23 recorded the highest polling of 68.13 %, while ward no 18 recorded the least of 29.10 %.

Polling began on a dull note at 7 a.m. and After 11 am in some polling booth were seen rush.

Many voters at some stations had to return as their names were not on the list.

While the Election officials had banned the use of mobile phones by voters inside polling stations, some polling officials extended this ban for the entire polling station premises, including a 100m periphery.

Otherwise, police personnel generally cautioned voters in queues either to switch off their phones or put them on the silent mode before entering the station.

Among the 23 wards under the limits of Bhatkal Town Municipal Council, 12 candidates were selected unanimously. Polling was held for remaining 11 wards. 

The polling officials facilitated the voters by setting up supportive polling booths at ward number 10, where the highest number of voters cast their votes. There were 11,226 voters in 11 polling booths, of which 5,696 voters exercised their franchise. 

A total of 27 candidates were in the fray. Polling was held peacefully without any errors in all the polling booths, said Polling Officer N B Patil.

The counting of the votes will be held at the The New English High School Hall  on May 31 at 8 am. After the polling, the EVMs have reached strong room.
