Woman killed as bus rams scooter in Kumta

Kumta: A woman was killed on the spot, while her husband sustained injuries after the scooter in which they were traveling in was crushed by a speeding bus in Baada region of Kumta taluk. The accident happened in the early morning of Friday, 7th September.

The deceased woman is identified as Mariyam Bi, aged 50, while her injured husband is Mughal Ahmed, aged 53, and are the residents of Birkodi in the taluk.

It is learnt that the accident happened when the bus was heading from Kumta bus-stand to Aghnashini, while the scooter was in the opposite direction. People blame negligence in the bus driving as main cause for accident. The impact of collision was such that the woman came underneath the wheels of bus, receiving critical head injuries and succumbed to it on the spot. Injured Mughal was shifted to Kumta Civil hospital for treatment. 

The couple is survived by two sons and two daughters.

A case stands registered in Kumta police station and the bus driver has been taken into police custody.
