Bhatkal: A youth was nabbed by the police in Bengaluru on 9th March, Friday as he was accused of allegedly stalking a ninth standard student in Honnavar near here in December last year.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ganesh Ishwar Naik (22).

According to sources, amidst communal tension going on in the neighbouring Honnavar taluk during December last year, a girl had reportedly stabbed her own hands and blamed it on men from another community which had increased the tension and section 144 was clamped into the taluk.

However, it was later found out that the injuries on girl’s hands were self inflicted and the information given by her was false. The truth was that she was being harassed by a local youth Ganesh due to which she did not want to give her exams.

The girl used to go to school which was 8km away, through a forest by walk and during her journey Ganesh used to stalk her and harass her by professing love and forcing her to reciprocate. Due to this, and not being able to study well amongst all this, she had harmed herself and made up the whole story.

Following investigations, the girl confessed before the magistrate. However, Ganesh was successful in fleeing from the city and police teams were formed in order to arrest him.

Finally, he was arrested by the police from Bengaluru on Friday and produced to the court on Saturday.

Ganesh has been booked under POCSO act.
