Mangaluru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has planned to contest in five constituencies in Karnataka. The candidate for Dakshina Kannada will be announced on Sunday, said Atatullah Jokatte, district president, SDPI.

He was addressing media here on Friday, and said that the party has organised a district convention on Sunday. During the convention, the party will also announce the candidate who will be contesting in the elections in DK parliamentary constituency

Attaullah added that in coastal Karnataka, a candidate will be fielded only in Dakshina Kannada district by the party. “Ours is a secular party, and want to fight against a fascist party which has been winning from the past many years in Dakshina Kannada district. In the last election, our party candidate won about 27,000 votes, which is a sign that people have the inclination to vote for a secular party,” he added.
