Priority to rescue and rehabilitation: Minister

Kodagu: The State government will give priority to rescue and rehabilitation of flood-affected people in Kodagu, said Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande on Sunday.

Speaking to presspersons after seeing the Mangaluru-Mani-Mysuru highway getting cut off at Jodupala Junction, he said that many locals, police personnel and National Disaster Response Force men are involved in the rescue operations.

He said that after ensuring the safety of people, the government would build houses for those who have lost them in the floods. The government has now released Rs. 100 crore for relief works in Kodagu district. The Minister said Rs. 50 crore has been released for rain relief works in Dakshina Kannada.

Later, he visited the relief camps at Kodagu Sampaje, Kallugundi, and Tekkila. U.T. Khader, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, and Sasikanth Senthil S., Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, were with him.
