Mangaluru: Girl raises voice against moral policing and vigilante groups

Mangaluru: A complaint was filed by a 20-year-old girl at the Cyber crime cell on 9th January, Tuesday against the religious vigilante groups who had circulated her picture along with a male companion from another religion on social media platforms.

The girl has been identified as the District Secretary of the Students Federation of India Madhuri Bolar who is an student at a government women’s college in the city.

According to sources, Madhuri found that a photo of her which is more than one year old, was being circulated by vigilante groups on social media. The photo had been picked from her facebook post wherein she is seen with her friends Suhas Adiga, Ganesh Bolar and Hamza.

However, the vigilante groups have been circulating the photo with a message stating that the muslim youth in the picture, 'Hamza Kinya is roaming around on bike with Hindu girls in broad daylight and Hindu outfits must give him a befitting reply.'

She further said that that the out-of-context image and message came to her as a rude shock as the picture also has Suhas Adiga and Ganesh Bolar as well. ‘However, the rumour mongers have targeted only her and Hamza who is who is also the district secretary of Student Federation of India’, she added.

Madhuri Bolar says she is agonised by the development and has urged the City Police Commissioner to initiate stern action against the guilty. Her mother Bharathi Bolar too had accompanied her while lodging the complaint.

Police commissioners T R Suresh has forwarded Madhuri’s complaint to city's cyber crime cell. The case has been registered at Pandeshwar police station limits.
