Karwar: Fishing with the use of LED lights is banned in the shores of North Canara districts. Yet some mechanised boat owners continue to catch fish at night by illuminating LED lights to attract fish.

The Coast guard conducted raids against such fishermen on 6th and 8th February and seized around 6 boats, which were used for light fishing purpose. The confiscated boats were then handed over to the police for further enquiry.

The Assistant Director of fishing department on Saturday, fined the owners of these boats. The raids were led by Coast Guard commanding officer Avinash Chitgapy.
