Karwar City municipal council elections hots up

Karwar: Karwar City Municipal Council elections are hotting up day by day, with major political parties announcing their candidates for the 31 seats.

While Bharatiya Janata Party has already announced its 31 candidates, the Congress has so far announced only 26 candidates names.

To everyone’s surprise, the Bharatiya Janata Party has allowed only five sitting council members to contest the elections, where as the remaining 26 candidates are freshers.

Political pundits

Political pundits claim that this has been done to take away the anti-incumbency factor from the elections.

Bharatiya Janata Party City unit President Manoj Bhat said, the party has issued B forms to candidate who have worked for the strengthening of party and also to those recommended by the senior party leaders.

Chances of winning

Where as Congress on other hand has selected candidates based on their winabality chances.

The party has given ticket to its sitting City Municipal Council President Ganapathi Naik. Five other seats, where there is stiff competition between candidates, the party has applied the wait and watch policy. Soon, we would take a decision on these five seats, said one of the senior party leaders.
