Karkala: Two dead in Quarry accident

Karkala: In a tragic incident, two quarry workers were crushed under the weight of the stones, resulting in their instant death in a quarry here at Hebri on 12th August, Saturday.

The deceased have been identied as Sanjeeva (35 yrs) and Jagadish (43 yrs), a resident of Uttar pradesh. Sanjeeva was working as a driver at the quarry while Jagadish was a loader.

According to sources, after loading the gravel stones into bunker, the truck driver reversed the vehicle, but the lorry dashed into the bunker and toppled, crushing both to death. The bodies are buried under the debris and couldn't be retrieved even after four hours.

It is learnt that the quarry belongs to Prasanna Sooda who resides at Shivapura, Kalmunda in Hebri. Hebri police arrived at the spot and have initiated the investigation and operation to retrieve the bodies.

The locals have opposed the operation of the quarry in the area in the past and had even approached the Lokayukta, which had conducted investigations.
