Bhatkal celebrates Independence day with great zeal

Bhatkal: The 72nd Independence Day celebrations were held at Taluka Stadium(YMSA Ground)  here on Wednesday August 15 with pomp, colour and patriotic fervour. 

Bhatkal Assistant commissioner Sajid Ahmed Mulla hoisted the Tricolour after receiving the guard of honour and Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik presided over the function.

In his address, he conveyed wishes to citizens, defence servicemen and others and recalled the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. As many as 13 contingents, Karnataka Special Reserve Police, Civil Police, Bharat Scouts and Guides and NCC teams from different schools, participated the parade led by Parade Commander Bsavaraj. PSI of Bhatkal town. Several meritorious students who have made significant achievements in academics were felicitated, along with march past winners.

Youngsters roamed around the Bhatkal waving the National Flag. Some drivers of public transport buses and autorickshaws decorated their vehicles for the occasion. While most of the shops and commercial establishments made decorations resembling the tricolour.

On the occasion, Bhatkal Tahsildar V N Bhadkar welcomed the guests, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Shridhar Shet.
TMC Vice-president KM Ashfaque, Town Jali President Adam Panambur,  Bhatkal DYSP Valentine D’souza and others were present on the dais.
