Uttara Kannada DC holds meet on poll preparedness

Karwar: Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul held a review meeting here on Wednesday and has instructed police to take appropriate action against those responsible for recent riots in the district to check similar incidents during elections.

 He said, the State Election Commission had instructed that sensitive and hyper sensitive poll booth be identified in the district and steps taken to thwart incidents of riots and other social unrest.

Officers of various departments including police department involved in election duty were instructed to be extra vigilant with regard to sensitive and hyper sensitive polling booths.

He called for steps to ensure that economically poor people are prevented from being enticed with money, liquor and other inducements to garner their votes.

The meeting saw discussions on identification of sensitive and hyper sensitive polling booths, checking illegal transportation of alcohol and management of law and order.
