CM Kumaraswamy Felicitates Asian Games Gold Medalist Poovamma

Mangaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy felicitated Asian Games Gold Medalist Poovamma, who made our country proud in the recent Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, prior to a review meeting, on his visit to Mangaluru.

It was a touching moment when the Chief Minister honoured and presented her with a total cash prize of Rs. 40 lakh including Rs. 25 lakh for winning the gold medal and Rs.15 lakh for winning the silver medal. He promised to allot her land.

The decision to felicitate her was taken when the Chief Minister arrived at Mangaluru in the morning, after discussion with the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada. 

The Chief Minister said that she was an inspiration to all and reiterated that the Government was committed to encouraging achievers in sports.

An overwhelmed Poovamma thanked the Chief Minister for this gesture. Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Jayamala also congratulated her. Loksabha Member, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council, Kota Shrinivasa Poojari and other elected representatives and officers were present too.
