Bike mishap in Shiroor: One from Bhatkal dies, another injured ... Updated report

Bhatkal: In a bike accident which occurred at Shiroor NH 66, neighbouring village of Bhatkal under Udupi district, a youth from Bhatkal died on the spot, while pillion rider was injured. The accident came to light on 12th March, Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Raqeeb Beary (25) s/o Abdul Lateef Beary, a resident of Chowtani in Bhatkal taluk. While the injured has been identified as Abu Mohammed (22) s/o Mohammed Khalid, who has been shifted to Udupi hospital after initial treatment at Kundapur.

According to sources, the duo were returning to Bhatkal after playing Kabaddi match in Byndoor last late night. However, a woman padestrian passing across the Shiroor bridge found them lying in a trench along with their bikes. She informed Locals, who gathered around there and informed the social workers of Bhatkal.

Upon hearing about the incident, social worker from Mugli Honda here Abubaker Damda and Imtiyaz Haidar from Chawtani rushed to the spot. They identified the youth and informed their respective parents about the tragedy. Local also informed the police about the incident while Imtiyaz arranged the injured to rushed to the hospital. Later the body has been taken to Byndoor hospital for post mortem by police.

It was found that Abdul Raqeeb had sustained severe injuries to the head and is suspected that the wheel of a vehicle moved over his head leading to his demise.

The Byndoor police are investigating the matter in order to find out whether the duo was hit by another vehicle or did they lose balance and fall off the trench.

The deceased Abdul Raqeeb used to work in Dubai and lived there for over 3 years. He had to return home when his father passed away 2 years ago. 

After his father's death, Abdul Raqeeb became the sole bread winner for his family and couldn't go back to Dubai. Instead, he started working at local shops and bakeries to generate income for his family.

His death has struck a serious blow to his family which consists of a grieving mother and two inconsolable sisters. Abdul Raqeeb was the only son of his mother.

A case stands registered at Byndoor police station.
