KARWAR: Call it urgency to carve names on the boards or making up for not coming to the district frequently after he became Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah will be inaugurating a whopping 519 projects in two days.

The mammoth list of projects to be inaugurated has been prepared by the district administration.
During his two-day visit to the district on December 7 and 8, Siddaramaiah will announce inauguration of works worth `2,468.40 crore in various taluk places. He will be visiting six constituencies. It looks like a mini campaigning by “exhibiting” development works ahead of the state assembly elections. After assuming office as the CM, Siddaramaiah visited Banavasi and Bhatkal once. But, he never visited Karwar, which is the district headquarters, in the last four-and-a-half-years.

On December 6, he will leave for Mangaluru from HAL airport, Bengaluru, in a special flight.  From Mangaluru, he will take a helicopter to Bhatkal.

In Bhatkal, he will lay the foundation stone for 126 works worth `904.31 crore. Then, he will move to Kumta in the helicopter to inaugurate 53 works worth `178.97 crore. By evening, his chopper will land in Karwar, where he will participate in a public function at Ravindranath Tagore beach and inaugurated 67 works worth `707.57 crore, including a medical college and an engineering college in Karwar.

On December 7, he will head to Sirsi to inaugurate 56 works worth `148.73 and then will go Mundagod to inaugurate 131 works worth `288.23 crore. He will then move to Haliyal, the constituency of Industries Minister R V Deshpande. There he will inaugurate 86 works worth `240.56 crore. From Haliyal, he will be heading to Hubballi airport to board a special flight to Bengaluru.

In all these six places, inaugural/foundation stone laying functions and public functions have been planned. The local Congress leaders are enthusiastic to bring huge number of people to the public functions of the Chief Minister. The functions are likely to be used to show the political power to the rival parities in the coastal district.

The political pundits opines that recently, state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa visited the six constituencies of the district as part his Parivartana Yatre. Somehow, the party could not show its strength due to poor organisation of the programme.

But now, Siddaramaiah’s visit to the district ahead of the assembly poll is like a mini campaigning. The Congress leaders are trying hard to showcase their strength to the BJP, which has strong roots in the coastal districts.
