29 shops located across NH66 demolished in Karwar

Karwar: Following orders from the deputy commissioner, as many as 29 shops located along NH-66 at Amadalli were demolished on Sunday. Nine houses located on the same stretch have been given time to vacate.

The demolition operation which began in the early morning continued till evening. To prevent any untoward incident, a total of 150 police were deployed near the demolition site. Four JCB machines were pressed into service to raze the shops to ground. The IRB which has taken up road expansion work had asked the administration to give this land to their possession. 

Accordingly, notices were issued to the landowners and even compensation was fixed. Majority of them had accepted the compensation, while some are yet to receive compensation. As there was a delay by the shop owners in shifting their shops, DC had issued orders to demolish the shops.
