Rapist sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment

Haliyal: A man accused of raping a minor girl of Hulgatti village in Haliyal taluk was sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment and was fined Rs 20,000 by District Sessions court on Friday.

Accused Budrasingh assured of marrying the girl, kidnapped her on December 24, 2012 and raped her at Kelgeri in Dharwad.

Haliyal police had registered a case in this connection under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO) and filed charge sheet. District Judge V S Dharwadkar, who heard the case, pronounced the verdict.

The court said that Rs 15,000 of the total fine of Rs 20,000 must be given to the survivor. Public prosecutor Subash P A Kairanna argued on behalf of the girl.
